Summer job voucher
The City of Kuopio’s summer job voucher employed 420 young people in the summer of 2025. Thank you to all the employers who employed young people!
The summer job voucher aims to promote young people’s first summer jobs. The salary for a two-week or 10-day employment relationship must be at least €450. However, the basic salary must be in accordance with the collective agreement or the generally binding collective agreement. Otherwise, the employee must be paid a normal and reasonable salary for the work performed so that the minimum wage in accordance with the employment condition of the Unemployment Security Act is met, i.e. at least €8.31 per hour. In addition to the basic salary, the summer employee must be paid holiday compensation and any evening and weekend bonuses must be taken into account.
The employment relationship must be between 1 May and 31 August 2026 and may also consist of parts, e.g. weekend work. The employer must have a business ID or other similar company identifier that is compatible with EU taxation. The workplace must be located in the EU.
Applying for summer job voucher assistance
The employer can apply for a summer job voucher subsidy of €300 retroactively from the Kuopio Employment Service after paying the salary to the young person. The subsidy is applied for by filling out an application for summer job subsidy from the link below via the City of Kuopio’s electronic services, select Service Groups from the drop-down menu Grants and then Summer Job Voucher Support. (Using the services requires strong identification and is done with Suomi.fi identification. The identification method can be, for example, online banking credentials or a mobile certificate). The application period is 15.5.-31.10.2026. After the application period ends, the subsidy cannot be granted.
Utilizing a summer job voucher for a summer business
The summer job voucher can also be used for a Summer Enterprise. A summer enterprise is a 4H enterprise established by a young person or groups of young people for the summer. A young person from Kuopio (born in 2007-2009) who is establishing a 4H enterprise in the spring of 2026 and has been granted a summer job voucher from the City of Kuopio for 2026 can apply for summer enterprise support.
The application period for the 4H summer enterprise support is 15 May – 31 October 2026. Late applications cannot be processed.
