In April 2022 a new development plan was created for developing the city centre. The new plan offers several interesting investment opportunities for real estate investors:

In the Iisalmi city centre several areas are identified as potential investment opportunities. City of Iisalmi owns two potential buildings and real estate development sites:
- Vanha Postitalo / Old Post Office, Riistakatu 5
- Linja-autoasema / Bus Station, Kauppakatu 3
