Wide range of activities year-round
Siilinjärvi is located about a 15-minute drive north of Kuopio. Kuopio Airport is located in Siilinjärvi and serves the entire surrounding region. The Siilinjärvi region offers plenty of activities for tourists, such as equestrian sports, golf, exploring the local nature and spa experiences.
Fontanella Spa is located right in the centre of the municipality and its wide range of services allow visitors to enjoy an active family holiday. Plans have been made to fully renovate the spa in the near future, including building a new sauna section and a larger lap pool, with the aim to attract even more customers. The intention is to build a hotel next to the spa to complement the range of services and the customer experience and to create co-marketing opportunities.
The municipality of Siilinjärvi is preparing a tourist industry development project aiming to develop the collaboration of tourism service providers in the municipality. Digital marketing channels will also be developed to gain more visibility. The Master Plan 2035 is a development plan for the centre of municipality. Its purpose is to outline the development of the centre and present key measures in the long run. Over the last ten years, the municipality has focused its efforts on developing the central quarter of Siilinjärvi where one of the goals has been to find a hotel operator for the site.
