Machine and energy technology in the Kuopio region is the most important branch of industry in terms of regional economy. A strong RDI hub of competence has been established to develop technology and new products and to ensure their competitiveness.
The focus of energy technology in the Kuopio region is innovative energy production, distribution, circulation and storage systems and the promotion of digital and smart solutions. The focus areas of materials research and combustion technology include accumulator technologies, small combustion engines and biofuel combustion engines.
Savonia University of Applied Sciences offers master’s degrees in engineering and other disciplines. The Kuopio region contains research infrastructure and RDI opportunities, in addition to leading international suppliers of energy plants, Andritz and Sumitomo, with their subcontractor networks. Other research and educational organizations in this sector in the region include the University of Eastern Finland, Savo Vocational College and Ylä-Savo Vocational College.
