People are aware that the food they eat is a crucial factor affecting their health, but increasingly, consumers are also focusing on the impact of food production and consumption on the world’s resources. One of the main goals in the strategy of City of Kuopio is to become a global leader in creating health and wellbeing for our citizens and companies. To achieve this goal, we believe that major food initiatives have a key role to play.
Sustainable food is not only about the food itself. It’s a combination of factors, including how the food is produced, how it’s distributed and how it’s consumed. New, disruptive technologies for producing, processing, distributing, and consuming food that are environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable are a priority in Kuopio.
Increasingly, businesses across the supply chain, ranging from farms, food companies to retailers, are under pressure to reduce the environmental and social impacts of growing produce and processed food. Local universities and vocational colleges have several ongoing education programs to ensure that the growing demand for experts required for the food supply chain in the region is fulfilled. Our special talent pool includes engineers, food scientists, and agrologists.
“As remigrant I feel that Kuopio is very good place for families. That's why we are here and that's why my co-workers are here that’s why our company is here. We also feel that business ecosystem in Kuopio Area gives good support for new entrepreneurs in food and beverage industry.”
