For nearly 50 years, TUOVINEN has been a leader in its field in Kuopio. Its success is rooted in high-quality prints, innovative investments and a customer-centred service model.
The Tuovinen family’s slogan once was “four generations of ink in our veins”. The grandfather of the current entrepreneurs Ari-Veikko, Aki and Anu Tuovinen established Kuopion kansallinen kirjapaino (Kuopio National Printing House), financed by his father. The parents of the Tuovinen siblings in turn founded Offsetpaino L. Tuovinen (now TUOVINEN) in 1978.
TUOVINEN values personal service that makes the customers return to the printing house again and again. According to CEO Ari-Veikko Tuovinen, an online ordering system is not enough – forming customer relationships requires personal contact.
“The ordering system is a cold friend,” Aki Tuovinen sums up.
TUOVINEN offers its customers printing and pressing services using three different production methods: offset, digital and large format printing.
Despite challenges along the way, such as economic downturns and financing problems, TUOVINEN has been able to expand its operations and stand out from its competitors over the years. One of the stand-out factors is location: the Tuovinen family wants to show that printing expertise can also be found outside Helsinki and deliveries can be made throughout Finland in a couple of days.
Some of the competitors have had to close down, which has contributed to increasing the demand for TUOVINEN’s services. The company is currently the most comprehensive printing service provider in the region.
“We tackle problems together with Aki and my sister Anu. We know how to work together very well,” says Ari-Veikko Tuominen.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic was a challenging time, it also created opportunities for investments and learning how to use new machines. One of the new devices is used for large decals and other large format printing. The marketing of various events is a growing segment, which often also requires large format graphics.
Over the years, award ceremonies and products that have brought success to TUOVINEN’ customers have brought joy to the company. The Tuovinen family wants to help its customers succeed and strive to correct any errors before printing – even if the errors are already in the material.
“We want to build a good customer experience from product design to the finished product. We support our customers at every step,” says Aki Tuovinen.
The Tuovinens advise those thinking about starting a business to put effort into the groundwork – a good idea is not enough. It will certainly not be easy; difficulties and sleepless nights are part of the deal.
“Yet, I encourage everyone to go all out once the decision to start a business has been made,” says Aki Tuovinen.
Ari-Veikko Tuovinen, CEO of TUOVINEN, likes how the City of Kuopio has been the driving force in improving the odds of success for businesses.
“Kuopio is a city of expertise and education, and I hope that it will continue to actively plan industrial plots. This keeps the city attractive to new companies. Kuopio is a great place to work and run a business,” Ari-Veikko Tuovinen sums up.
According to Tuovinen, the Kuopio Chamber of Commerce has also been very active and commendable in highlighting, for example, the improvement of Highway 5, networking of businesses and investments.
